Prior proper planning prevents piss poor production. Ladies and gentlemen, I have survived the first two weeks of Double R Productions as a production assistant in training. (Crowd cheers. Just kidding…) My internship and fellow colleagues are cool so far. At first, I was overwhelmed at the assignments Rosemary dished out to the intern team (Blake, Amélie and I) but you work hard to play harder right? I’m still trying to feel vibes with my co-workers to see how comfortable I am with them, but that takes time. If you think internships are nothing but coffee runs and answering phone calls, you are sadly mistaken. At Double R, you are actually a part of the team. You’re just one of the players on the roster without a salary.
This week, we volunteered our services to Jennifer Cover Payne, president of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington. She held a press conference about the arts at the Burke Theater inside the U.S. Naval Memorial. The best part about that day was the compliments I received from Jennifer for showing up early and dressing professionally. I greeted guests, the press, and panelists. This gave me more confidence in my abilities to interact with people. It was fun seeing people get confused about which door to use and second-guess themselves as to whether they came to the right place. Greeting them with a smile confirmed that.
I’m nervous about the shoot that I have to go to on Wednesday, because I heard everything that could or does go wrong would be blamed on the P.A. (me!). Geesh, I just got here. But nonetheless, I think I can make things work out because I refuse to accept anything less.
