5 Tips to a Successful Production

  • admin

When I joined the Double R intern team I knew the basics of what needed to happen on a shoot, cameras, lights, scripting, and consulting with the client. However, I am just beginning my pursuit in professional film production so I searched online for some more information; I found an article on Fine Cut’s website about 10 Rules of Set Etiquette to acquaint myself with the basics. Though, when I went on my first shoot, I found the attention to and necessity of basic manners even more important than all of this industry etiquette. This particular shoot went smoothly and everyone seemed to click, but I realized how important it is to respect everyone. This sounds like common sense and/or courtesy, but a shoot is also business, and people can get caught up in their work. There is a fine line between being politely efficient and being driven by your own goals and not being open to ideas. Whether you are a novice PA or a seasoned producer, it is crucial to be productive while also being polite. In the article on Fine Cut, I found a quote that read, “If you want to work in the business, and be successful, you need to treat everyone with respect.” There is no simpler way to respect a coworker than to be polite while working with them.

Here is a list of five of the most essential things I learned on my first shoot:

1. BE POLITE!

2. Listen and absorb

3. Wear comfy shoes

4. Be ready and excited to do any task at any time

5. Enjoy it!

Ciao!
