Although we start our second week of work in gloomy weather, influenced by hurricane Florence, still we are vigorous and excited to meet new challenges. The in-the-camera intern video assignment is on the top of our to-do list.
We brainstormed an idea a week ahead, then wrote the script and made a shot list a day before. On Tuesday, we stood behind the video camera, trying to operate it and accomplish the in-the-camera editing challenge. For the first time, we were all on our own. However, it didn’t go as smoothly as planned. From the moment we set up the tripod, adjusting the balance took us half an hour and then we were finally rolling the camera.
Just like Michelle, one of my fellow interns said, shooting everything in order is challenging, but also the most fun part of the entire project. The challenge of this assignment was that we could not edit the footage after shooting, therefore every shot had to be in order.
We only shot the first three scenes 10 times over before we decided the script was too complicated. “We didn’t properly plan it out”, said Quinton, a member of our intern team, “How should we shoot it and what should we shoot” ?
We finally came up with a more simple idea, and completed the challenge at the end of the day. The moral of the story? The 7 Ps of production that we learned on our first day is a crucial lesson.
