Life has been very surreal since the world has been on lockdown. It has been 23 days since I started quarantining and working from home. The first week being home was okay, but as time went on it started to become nerve-racking because I didn’t know what was going to happen to my video production apprenticeship, since I hadn’t heard anything from CECAP/DOES. But in the end everything worked out because I’m very lucky to still have my job during these rough times.
The biggest challenge I’ve been facing while working from home is maintaining a schedule. I’ve been trying to make sure that I would stick to a somewhat similar schedule as I had before the pandemic started. One of the main struggles I’ve been having while at home has been my sleeping schedule. It has been completely thrown off, but I try to be in bed by a certain time so I don’t waste my morning sleeping in. I also try to get dressed each morning to feel as if I have to go somewhere because it motivates me to be productive. I have the habit of doing work in bed at times, so to combat that I try to work in different areas where there is a lot of sunlight. One of my favorite areas to work is on my balcony because although I’m practicing social distancing, I can still get fresh air and not feel like I’m trapped inside.
I do miss working in our Double R office, but I found maintaining the same work schedule/routine as before very helpful. The only difference is that my work schedule/routine is being applied at home. I prioritize all my assignments like I would at work. If I were in the office, it would be easier to get my Easter GFX reviewed, but because we are all at home communicating through email, I knew it might take a little longer for a response as things are a little hectic. So the first few days I worked heavily on my GFX for Easter to ensure Rosemary, my boss, and Chloe, our production coordinator, have time to review it and send notes on what needs to be changed. I then was able to work on my blog and submit that for review. I’ve also worked on our video productioncontact list of different companies, which is very important for us during these times. Although we are social distancing, we still need to let everyone know that the “Best Brand in the Business” is still open and we are working from home. Those are just some production/PR/marketing assignments I’ve done from home. It’s not always easy because some days, I just want to be somewhere else other than my home, but I have to do what I can to not get sick or possibly spread the virus.
