An Intern Learns that Everyone is in Sales

  • admin

As part of my intern assignments this semester, we are learning the importance of sales and business development. Working in a small business, networking and sales efforts are critical and can keep your business afloat! At Double R, the intern team is learning first hand the steps to a successful sales call. First, find an organization that you are passionate about. Whether it is education, environment or global affairs, finding an issue that peaks your interest makes all the difference. Also, you want to make sure that they need the services you provide. For example, if you’re selling baking supplies you wouldn’t call a bowling ally and sell them the latest technology in non-stick cookware, right? Second, make a connection! In a world where everything is becoming digital, the personal sales call is becoming passé but we are encouraged to call instead of email. Before you call, make sure you have done adequate research about the organization. You want the person you’re speaking with to know that you care about their mission. Finally, be prepared to answer any questions related to your company.

I know that during this process there will be people who aren’t interested but don’t lose your cool. Giving a good impression is important because you never know if they may need your services in the future. For more information about making a successful sales call check out this article!
