From Scripts to Editing, We’ve Done it ALL

  • admin
Can you say “hands-on experience”? While we are going through our fifth week of interning for Double R Productions, I can barely take a break to even write this blog post.
This week we uploaded our first video blog on YouTube, and it is so satisfying to show others and hear them laugh. Anthony, Robert and I spent a whole day shooting it and a couple of days editing because we wanted it to be perfect. I think it’s funny, and I don’t give out compliments very often, so you should watch it.
We just wrapped up editing a news story created about the Social Security and Marriage Equality (SAME) Act. The Double R interns traveled to the Capitol Visitor Center to attend the press conference. Last week, the three of us learned how to create subtitles and open captions for videos for the National Credit Union Administration and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. Did I mention that we did a lot this week? Double R Productions has not just been a “run-and-go-get-coffee” internship. It’s more of a “run-and-go-get-that-news-story-and-edit-it-in-Avid-and-don’t-forget-to-email-that-client-and-write-up-that-script-today” internship.
While we’ve been in D.C., Rosemary has taken us to  all different kinds of meetings and events. Robert attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for D.C. Office of Cable Television, Anthony went to a meeting with Rosemary and Catherine for the Art League, and I went to the National Partnership for Women and Families luncheon where Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi spoke. I was inspired by how women could get together and talk about the struggles we have been through to get to where we are now. Rosemary has provided all of us with many opportunities to network.
In just five weeks we have blogged, edited videos, written scripts, captioned videos, applied powder makeup to actors, taken pictures, vlogged, shot videos, found music for clients, created call sheets and had a blast doing it all. This is an experience Anthony, Robert and I will always remember, and we are grateful to have learned all these skills.
