My Final Fantasy: DC

  • admin

As maybe one of the stranger interns (so I like to think), the impression I had about Double R through professional phone and email conversations with Rosemary seemed very far away from my comfort zone. In fact, I was too intimidated to check out the Double R web site and project links before coming here.

When I finally got the guts to check it out, I heard a “MOO” as the homepage opened and I thought;

“What’s that sound?”

“It’s your future calling you, Amber.”

“My future MOOs?”

From that moment I realized this was not just a classy upscale production company with adorable bovine mascots. It’s an adventure calling my name. And my name is now Moo! From there on it seemed like it was meant to be!

Since starting my two-day a week internship with Double R Productions I have met many fun and exciting people – on my metro ride from Scaggsville, Maryland, and most of all the other two Double R interns. They are both from far away, Mexico and Belgium! They are bringing ‘learn something new every day’, into a whole new light for me! Did you know DVD players are different in Europe? I had no idea!

I’ve worked on many projects since I started, including an In-the-Camera exercise with the other interns, filming our elevator pitches, a client meeting, and designing a half-page ad for a booklet! We are also working as a team to come up with ideas to fix the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington’s logo and marketing campaign.

Looking over our elevator pitches together and preparing for our intern review is part of the fun; We are rehearsing and showing each other how to do things that we didn’t know before. The adventures to the post office, and mini battles against the fax machine are always fun, too.

Another battle – the one against the camera – is huge! Part of it is fighting the sillys to keep a straight face!

As a naturally shy and socially awkward person, every day is a new adventure for me here in D.C.! And I’m making the best of it! As intimidated as I still am, I try to throw in a joke to stay social.
