When Rosemary Reed asks you to wake up before sunrise you say yes and set two alarms. So began my second shoot in as many weeks with the Double Rteam. We began our shoot for the National Credit Union Administration bright and early, and I was privileged to work under Director of Photography Bruce Liffiton and Sound Recordist Henry Drollinger. I worked with Bruce and Harry on the previous shoot with Washington Gas and Electric, and the two always offer up constructive help and advice.
Thus far Double R Productions has done a tremendous job of getting us trained quickly and efficiently for filming in the field. Between instructional sessions with Claudio, an intern-conducted shoot without the use of editing, and a thirty second “elevator speech” pitching Double R, “Team Overachiever” is still going strong. When I arrived at the NCUA shoot I felt prepared and ready to operate a stationary second camera without too much assistance. Needless to say, it was a nice improvement over my lengthy set-up at the Washington Gas and Electric shoot.
The experience on shoots is like a breath of fresh air. The Washington Center staff and alum have been telling me since I arrived in Washington just how lucky I am to have an internship with Double R Productions. After working here for just about two weeks, I can already see that the level of responsibility and growth through work experience sets this internship apart from so many others. My TWC roommates are even a little jealous at just how much I’ve gotten to do in the field! The mornings may be early, but the experience is unparalleled.
