Vibrant colors jump off the walls, almost literally, at The Textile Museum’s “Colors of the Oasis” exhibit. The beautiful textiles on display were certainly enough to wake me up as I walked into the gallery preparing for an early morning shoot for the museum’s Annual Fund video, which will be posted to YouTube and sent to museum patrons as a part of their annual fundraising efforts.
The shoot itself was easy because the Double R team was working with the director of The Textile Museum and the president of the board of trustees. The Ikat textiles made the perfect backdrop for the shoot. The only challenge we faced was completing the shoot before a school tour came through. But Paul and I have gotten the hang of being production assistants and with guidance from Rosemary, Catherine and Gino, we worked together like an oiled machine.
For me, the shoot was like being a kid in a candy store. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved going to museums. I was lucky enough to grow up in a family that supported this love and I have been to museums of all kinds from the Indianapolis Children’s Museum to the Louvre in Paris. It was great to see a school group touring the museum because field trips to places like The Textile Museum are essential to sparking kids’ interests in the arts and hopefully their love of museums. I will continue to go out and take advantage of as many of the museums in Washington as I possibly can before I head home in December.
