Sing this blog’s title to the tune of Beyonce’s 2003 hit Crazy in Love, and you’ll develop a sense of why we are going a little wild over our latest project. Each semester, Double R interns create a pro bono video project for a non-profit organization that interests them. We initially learned about the Eagles Nest Youth Association (ENYA) and its “Shoot Hoops, Not Bullets” program in ward 8 through Rosemary after she met the organization’s vice president at a Humanities DC event. ENYA provides after school care, sports contests and STEM-related activities for at-risk youth.
We worked through scheduling conflicts and a number of assignments and training lessons before suddenly realizing that the best opportunity to begin filming this project would be on March 22nd. With just one day to record everything as a part of the assignment’s guidelines, we traveled to the Bald Eagle Recreation Center in Southwest, DC. We navigated through some communications and internal logistics and gathered as much content as we could.
Now with just a few weeks left at Double R, mixed with a number of internship projects and assignments from The Washington Center, we’re challenged with creating a quality video project that will raise awareness about what ENYA is doing to have a positive influence in its community. Needless to say, the month of April will have “me looking so crazy in love” work.
