Young Producers at TWC Panel

  • admin

I’m not kidding when I say I learn something new everyday! Carina, Mckenzie, and I recently shot and produced a video featuring a panel at SiriusXM station, and I quickly learned in postproduction to pay closer attention to my camera angles and zoom settings when shooting.

The Washington Center asked Double R to shoot a panel of professionals in the media, which included our very own Rosemary Reed. We recognized most of the audience because they are also enrolled at The Washington Center’s Media and Communications Program. We proudly exuded professionalism and showed our colleagues how to properly conduct a shoot. This gave us a sense of confidence – I felt like my peers admired our work and the amount of hands-on experience we’re getting here at Double R. Having Rosemary by our sides allowed us to stay calm and confident during our shoot without the assistance of our other Double R supervisors.

Mistakes will be made, I’ve learned that, but it’s how you improve on those mistakes that counts. When recording I learned not to place the person. When zooming, it is important not to zoom in or out too fast because it throws off the viewers. This was a result of my fingers moving faster than I wanted them to, but I’ll have more opportunities to work with the camera and get accustomed to the buttons. This is our first piece that we edited on the AVID and so we got to clean up those mistakes. My prior experience with Final Cut Pro and the guidance of Catherine, our production coordinator, and Claudio, our production manager, provided us a smooth transition to a complex editing program.

After the editing is complete, there’s a sense of accomplishment that you feel. You’ve worked on a piece and you’ve seen the improvements over time. However as a perfectionist, it is difficult to be completely satisfied because there’s always room for improvement, but I am optimistic with how this video is going to turn out. The finished product will be posted on The Washington Center’s website.
