I’m wrapping up my third week at Double R Productions and it has been a whirlwind. My time at Double R started with media training for a client, then the next week I went to my first shoot with my fellow intern, Woojae. Now we’re attempting to understand the delicate intricacies of office etiquette. This week in particular has been one of self-reflection and growth. Woojae and I are putting the finishing touches on the Allison Silberberg for Mayor of Alexandria, Virginia re-election campaign video. During the editing process we received immense guidance from the staff at Double R, as well as Rosemary Reed, who has reviewed our video every step of the way.
One thing editing has taught me is that there are a lot of different styles when it comes to creating a video. One person might like one shot over another, and another person might like the opposite. One person might prefer to edit using one technique and another person might prefer a different technique. It’s not that one particular style or perspective is outright better than another, but different people like different things and that’s evident in the editing process. Ultimately, Woojae and I wanted to deliver work we were proud of. One example of this was creating the script. There were a million ways to go about making this video, but in creating the script I was able to clearly outline my vision. This was one of the first steps in the creative process, and I was thrilled to get an opportunity to write the script for what would later become our video.
This internship has proven to me over and over again that experience in the media industry is incredibly valuable moving forward. As a college senior I thought I was ready to work in this industry, but Double R Productions has graciously humbled me. I am now motivated more than ever to prove that I belong in this industry. I will admit there were times where I felt a bit discouraged, but I always remember how any one of my peers on campus would kill for an opportunity to intern at a well-established video production company, such as Double R. You can’t master any skill in just one day, let alone three weeks, but by the end of the semester I hope to have come so much closer to my producing dreams.
