The first week went by in a flash. It was quite a busy one, in fact (at least more than I expected). When Rosemary assigned me to be a Production Assistant on a shoot by my fourth day, I felt excited. That Monday I woke up at 6:30 to get ready. I dressed up for the shoot, which was held at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) headquarters in Alexandria. Maslow Media Group has called on Double R to produce projects for various NCUA departments since August. We entered the building by 7:50 a.m. and left by 2:00 p.m. Everything seems to go by really fast here in DC.
As quickly as it went by, I still enjoyed the shoot. I collected release forms, assisted with setting up and taking down the equipment, still photography and everything else that came up. I learned a lot from Gino, the Director of Photography, and I really like him. He is one of those old-timers that has been around in the business for a while, so, naturally, stories were on the way (all of them great, by the way).
It was kind of surreal when I returned to a “typical” Double Rday the following morning. I went to the post office, the bank, answered phones, etc. This job requires a lot of different skill sets. Rosemary was right: a small business means everybody does everything!
Since my first week rushed by I’m a little worried that the program will go by just as quickly. But that just means that I have to make every second count from now on.
Adios.
