Adventures in Production Assisting

  • admin

Adjusting from college student to production assistant is very challenging. The team of Me (Quinton), Michelle, and Shirley went in thinking everything was under control…and then we had the review. Recently the team has been having difficulty with due dates, and that’s from lack of communication. We’re talking and discussing ideas but we aren’t sharing information. Some things we turn in are missing content, look unfinished, or are done wrong. Tensions were high when Rosemary had to give us the intern review the week past its scheduled date.

For the review, Rosemary was testing us on in the office procedure and Paul was testing us on shooting and editing procedures. As a team we believed we did the best we could with the videographer test. The editing test showed we need more time working in the AVID editing software, which we knew we slacked on due to stressing about everything else. The real test showed to be the office procedure review given by Rosemary’s evil twin “Rose.” Rose began testing us on what to do when a guest arrives and the person they are here to see isn’t ready for them. It’s safe to say we were a little clueless. However once again we took this as a learning experience. We were taught very useful ‘stalling’ skills that Rosemary mentioned will also help us with any future jobs. Let’s face it; what other company will test your ability to stall by pretending the head of the company is their own evil twin?

This week we also had our first shot at filming an event. It was a screening for a video series done by Double R for Foggy Bottom West End Village. Once again, the 7 Ps were very prominent. We were only told to film the event the day before, so we were not well prepared. However we understand that’s how this industry works, you need to get your act together and plan and prepare as much as you can from the get go. Although we checked our makeup bag, printed out our talent releases and had the address of the event on the top of our phone, we left the shoot feeling inadequate with what we had to work with. A combination of not preparing for how dark the theatre was and the battery’s dying, we thought we had nothing to get this project done. However, our attitudes changed after reviewing all the footage we got. Regardless of some of the footage being bad, the amount we had gave us more than enough to produce something by Monday. We learned that when all else fail, get as much as you can.

Yes, we messed up but it’s not about how bad you mess up, it’s how you recover. We might not have done well on the review and we might have messed up on the shoot but at least we’re learning. We knew what we missed in the review and we knew our shortcomings at the shoot but we also knew how to overcome those difficulties. For conditions that are accompanied by anxiety, panic disorders, neurotic states and neuroses, treatment is usually carried out with the use of tranquilizers (anxiolytics). One of these drugs is Ativan. This drug belongs to the group of benzodiazepine tranquilizers, has a wide effect on the nervous system and mental state of the patient, quickly eliminates anxiety symptoms, but has a lot of contraindications and side effects. More information about the drug at https://crohnscolitislifestyle.com/ativan-lorazepam-online/. Now that we know what to work on, we’re excited to advance more as Production Assistants and as a collaborating “Herd.”
