One of our recent intern projects was to brainstorm and sketch ideas for the Spring 2010 Double R postcard. Monica, Emma and I each created three different drafts to be judged by the staff at Double R. After reviewing all of our ideas they decided that Monica’s sketch of a weekly planner and a tagline that read, “Have you penciled us in?” was the winner. Since I have experience working with Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator it was my job to transform the simple black and white drawing to a postcard. The design and concept were already in place but it was my responsibility to find just the right graphics and colors and really bring this postcard to life. When you work with design programs the learning experience never ends. You have to be prepared to undo and re-do different aspects of your project many times during the development phase. It is always good to try something new and experiment – maybe it will fit your project and maybe it won’t. For some useful tips on how to use illustrator I always refer to this webpage were I could find new tricks to enhance my Illustrator projects. Check it out:
