Hello all! My name is Brianna Ray, great niece of Rosemary. I just started working as an intern today for Double R Productions. As I am from Wichita, Kansas, Rosemary and I thought it would be a good idea for me to have some inner city work experience before heading off to Smith College in the fall.
I am thinking now that I would like to major in Environmental Science and Policy. I have already seen quite a lot of differences between DC and Wichita in terms of environmentalism and urban living. First of all, where I’m from the urban scene is quite literally dead. Wichita is known for its massive suburban sprawl and most people have to travel by car to work, taking at least 15 minutes per trip via highway. In DC, I have been pleasantly surprised by the pedestrian-friendly streets, the vibrant city life and general appreciation for the surrounding environment. All the beautiful inner city apartments, wide sidewalks, bike paths and a low speed limit for motor vehicles all heighten the sense of community and well-being among residents.
Throughout my experience as a production/office/field intern, I would like to work on projects related to raising awareness of the ever-increasing global warming that we have created ourselves. What are ways, as a community and as individuals, that we can help mitigate this life-threatening environmental issue. I also hope to bring back knowledge to Wichita of how the city can change for the better in a more earth-friendly direction.
