Bright and Early Beginnings

The third week of my internship has been the busiest yet. While the majority of the office was out on a three-day shoot for Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM), Catherine and I produced the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Advocacy Forum at the Liaison Capitol Hotel. Here, we managed videographers and live stream techs as well as took notes during the sessions. Catherine and I listened intently for what she calls, “magic moments.” These are best described as instances where someone says something extremely powerful, or a statement that an individual can learn from to be included in the video. After all, we need the best highlights for our videos! We received positive feedback from the audience after watching previous AFSP videos that Double R produced.

Given that half the week was spent at AFSP, the other half was spent at the office. Catherine, Michael, and I held down the fort. It was very odd with only 3 of us here. The office was quiet, even with the frequent ringing of the phone! I worked on various research projects and took care of some tasks around the office. We kept in touch with the other half of our production family at the TEAM shoot, and discussed how each end of the Double R staff was doing.

Despite the quiet office atmosphere, I had a long and crazy week. Getting up at 4:30 AM for shoots is not my idea of fun, though the sessions were extremely informative and interesting when we actually arrived. Plus, it’s more fun to get out of the office and learn hands-on production skills! I listened to some really inspiring stories and individuals. Working for an organization that really changes lives feels great. I consider myself very lucky to benefit from all of the new information that I learned this week. We had a smooth production process, and we represented Double R well! I’m excited for more shoots in the future, as well as the chance to assist with something this powerful and important again.
