Challenges Make You Grow

  • admin

It’s been nearly a month since I started my internship at Double R Productions. During this first month, I got accustomed to my position thanks to a lot of help from the Double R team and my nervousness has gradually disappeared. I was going through several challenges at the same time.

The first challenge I had to overcome was the Elevator Speech. That was my very first assignment of shooting and editing video. Before I shot my elevator speech, I learned from our apprentices Brianna and Monique how to set up the white and black backdrops in the insert studio and how to set up the camera and proper lights. Using a video camera was not that difficult because I have used it many times before, but setting up in an insert studio for the shoot was a little complicated for me. We had to shoot the black backdrop version again because of some lighting issues. The whole process was interesting and I’m learning new things!

The hardest part was speaking in front of the camera. I’m not used to talking to the camera because I always freeze and become unnatural. But talking about Double R and myself to someone I first meet can happen anytime. This experience will help me someday in the future so I tried my best. I also learned how to edit videos on AVID Media Composer. It was my first time using AVID but didn’t take a long time to learn basic editing skills because Brianna and Monique taught me well. I was able to edit my two elevator speech videos successfully.

The second Challenge was making a Valentine’s Day GFX. I’ve only used Photoshop and never used Illustrator program before. But soon, I got used to Illustrator because Brianna helped me a lot and we finally completed Valentine’s Day GFX together. I felt a sense of accomplishment when Chloe and Rosemary said they like my GFX outcome.

It would be a lie if I said that I didn’t feel overwhelmed when I found out that I had to do all the assignments by myself. But every member of the Double R team is helping me and I am learning a lot especially because I’m the only intern at Double R. I’m looking forward to other challenges that I’ll accomplish this spring.
