After snowstorm Jonas and a few other traveling obstacles, I am proud to say that I have finally made it to DC and completed my first week at Double R Productions! After a week’s delay, I knew that there would be a lot of work to catch up on once I arrived. Luckily, my fellow intern Lorenz and I live in the same building and were able to ride the metro to work together, which alleviated the burden of me having to find my way through the metro system and to our internship alone on the first day.
The staff was very welcoming when I arrived. Before I knew it, I was in my first staff meeting and learning about the projects that we would be working on this week. In what felt like our first official task as an intern group, we went to pick up a pizza lunch order for the office. After lunch, filling out the rest of my introductory paperwork and reviewing our intern booklets, Lorenz and I went out in the city to complete a scavenger hunt to locations that we will frequently visit this semester.
Originally, we were scheduled to complete our first “In-the-Camera” project, which involves telling a story featuring the both of us without editing the video. The rainy weather forced us to push this back. After what felt like hours trying to find our way around to all of the locations (we missed a couple), we returned soaking wet and exhausted – not a bad way to start the first day.
The rest of the week has involved us completing other intern projects and learning how to set up and use equipment for shoots as we prepare for what should be a fun, busy and productive experience at Double R this spring.
