The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is becoming the biggest environmental disaster in the world. As many want to blame the president and BP, some Americans are taking their dissatisfaction a step further by speaking out and rallying against BP for the damage its done to our environment.
On Thursday, June 10, 2010, a rally was set up in the afternoon in Washington, DC to protest BP headquarters. Many people showed up with signs and even their own oil to show locals what oil can do when it meets with the environment. Erin, Caitlin and I got the chance to be a part of this and find out personally how this spill was affecting Americans.
I spoke with a fourth generation shrimp fisherwoman who traveled the long journey from Louisiana to protest in the nations capital. I was intrigued on how the oil spill was affecting her and her family. They are no longer allowed to fish making their income less than none. Along with the other protesters, all three of us got to experience the chanting of, “Time to get off oil, clean energy now.”
This was a huge experience for all of us to learn the basics of interviewing and filming with thecamera. We also came in contact with other local newscasters who wanted their fair share of interviews. This really taught us how we need to be strong and show confidence. We are not just interns, we are learning professionals.
