How to Prepare for your Editing

  • admin

As a Double R Productions intern I am learning how to shoot and edit a video. With a major in marketing, I had never learned anything about video editing before January. I did not even know what an AVID system looked like. Thanks to the patient guidance of the Double R team, I have been able to learn and be a part of every step of the production process. Last week we went to a health care rally on Capitol Hill called Melanie’s March. We shot the footage but our job was only half over. This week, we logged the best clips from our tapes and strung together our very first news package. Here are some tips that I learned from my first time using AVID. These will help any beginner AVID user:

  1. Screening & logging: Always leave 5 extra seconds at the beginning and end of your clips if you would like to add some dissolves or effects you need the extra breading room for your clips.
  2. Creating your script: Remember the script is not written is stone. You may have to make some changes, but it is always good to have a starting point.
  3. Look for logos, photos & music: Be organized have everything in a folder. Make sure you have good quality photos and logos that will not look too pixilated (blurry) when you blow them up for TV.
  4. Digitize all your footage: Go to every bin and digitize every log you have, but remember to put the tape needed.

These tips will help you prepare all your footage before you actually create your video. We have done a very good job have had so much fun creating this news package. Here is the link so you can check it out:
