This week the internship team put finishing touches on our pro bono piece for Central Union Mission. We learned that we have to keep watching what we create until all details are perfect. The sound, images, footage, music, and effects have to blend perfectly. If all of the key components are not aligned then the video needs more work. Timing is everything in video production.
With each revision of this video, we talked to Rosemary, the company president, about how our project relates to the real world. She taught us lessons that I will always remember such as how to get the best responses out of people during an interview. There are simple ways to calm people down on the set of a video shoot. During our project, Rosemary repeatedly asked us when our video would be completed. Thinking we were done, our response every time was, “NOW”. But after looking at the video she would tell us, “this is not perfect, I’m seeing a lot of mistakes”. She sat with us and explained that in the newsroom no one will publish unless it is perfect. She also spoke with us about how to grab people’s attention through sound. Now I find myself looking at projects over and over again because there is always something that I can fix. When I think a project is done I always ask myself, “Is it perfect?” This is one of many phrases instilled in me during my time at Double R Productions.
