Kirby:
It’s official. After what feels like the shortest 10 weeks I have ever experienced, my summer internship with Double R Productions is drawing to a close. It seems like it was just yesterday that Briana and I were returning from the Intern Scavenger Hunt on our first day, only to realize that we had accidentally locked ourselves out of the office. In reality, I spent yesterday glossing over all the footage helped in capturing this summer as I embarked on the creation of our demo reel. No matter how great the reel is, it will not be able to encapsulate every aspect of our experience at Double R Productions. That’s because some of our favorite moments happened when the cameras weren’t rolling. What I will miss most about being a part of the Double R team this summer is the camaraderie. From the early morning shoots with Paul and Eurah fueled by coffee and Firehook Bakery treats, generously provided by Rosemary, to everyone sitting down together around noon each day to break bread, there is a palpable sense of community here that cannot be taken for granted in this day and age. All in all, endless boxes of tasty pastries and Monday lunches were just the cherries on top of my enormously rewarding summer. The greatest gift I received from Double R Productions is that which was promised in my first interview with Rosemary: a full-service communications internship and then some.
Briana:
Every Monday, the Double R team gathers for a weekly meeting. As I was preparing for a new assignment I realized Thursday marks my last day with Double R Productions. The only thing left for me to do is clear my desk, brag about my accomplishments, and say goodbye.
This summer, I hit the ground running. From day one, Kirby and I have been attending shoots, writing scripts, and producing videos. I have had the freedom to be creative, and more importantly, the freedom to fail. The trust and responsibility that Double R has placed in me has given me a sense of confidence I did not have before. Now, I can propose ideas and communicate with clients like a professional. I am leaving with amazing work samples, great memories, and good friends.
The worst part of summer ending is saying farewell to the mentors I have found at Double R. Rosemary challenges her interns by giving independent work that serves a purpose within the company, even allowing me to join her on a live radio show. The rest of my coworkers have also been invaluable to my growth. By offering constructive criticism and advice, I have learned more in 10 weeks at Double R than 3 years sitting in a classroom. As I begin to pack my things, I know I am leaving Double R with the knowledge I need to excel, wherever I end up.
