Lessons Learned

  • admin

It’s been one gloomy week in DC between rain and clouds, but things are still looking bright at Double R! The rain hasn’t been able to dampen my spirits because this past week has held a lot of “firsts” for me.

Last Friday, I accompanied Rosemary to my first prospective client meeting. I got to see how she interacts with a new potential client, as well as participate in the meeting. It was a great learning experience for me because I not only got a chance to see Rosemary at work, but I felt like my opinions and ideas were valuable to the client.

Yesterday was another big first: my first experience as a production assistant on a client shoot. Claudio and I braved the rain to head to the Capitol Hill Club to do a shoot for Discover Magazine. I was a little nervous to be the first of the interns to go out on a shoot, but excited at the same time.

I learned that the most important part of being a PA is being flexible. I helped test sound and lighting, along with making the client comfortable. I took notes to assist in postproduction and used a boom mic to get sound bites from the audience during the question and answer session. I also learned the importance of proper prior planning—you want to anticipate any potential problem so you have a solution ready to go.

All in all the past week has really put some of the lessons I’ve learned at Double R to the test, but I think I’ve passed them with flying colors. I look forward to even more learning opportunities during the rest of my time at Double R.
