How Media Affects the Senate

  • admin

On top of interning here at Double R Productions, I also take part in The Washington Center Internship Program. Part of this program requires that you learn about how public policy works here in the nation’s capitol. Because of this, I attended a meeting with Matt Bonaccorsi, legislative advisor to my State Senator James McGovern on Capitol Hill. Walking to the Cannon House Office was surreal and an experience like no other.

Working on the Hill seems to be very demanding, but also exciting at the same time. One of the things I learned was how much the media can affect a certain bill being pushed further along in the process. Matt explained that they get thousands of bills brought up to them in a single session (two years), so it is very easy for some bills to get more attention than others. He said that one of the things http://shlclubhouse.org/phentermine-online/ that forces them to give more attention to a particular bill, is when reporters call and ask for statements about what they are doing.

Matt expressed how they could be working on a proposal for something, but once they have reporters and the media constantly asking them about what action is being taken on a certain issue, they drop all else and only focus on that specific one. It was nice to hear this, because Double R Productions is especially passionate about this kind of media. We are always on top of getting people out to vote and involved with their congressmen.

Learning about how you can be a part of the governmental process without actually being involved in the government was truly life changing. I am so thankful to work for such a great company, in such a great city.
