My first internship, shoot and hands-on-experience ever!

  • admin

This is my third week of this amazing experience at Double R Productions and it has been just great!

Why D.C.? As a native of Mexico, I wanted to involve myself in an internship abroad to meet new people and to get international experience. I consider this city one of the most stunning and cleanest of America.

Why Double R Productions? Well, as a marketing student I did not know anything about television and media production and that is why I chose the media and communication area. When I first talked to Rosemary Reed on the phone I knew that this was the perfect place for me.

In the beginning, I faced some challenges like learning the correct way to answer the phone and knowing how to get to the places we will routinely visit, like the bank. The first time Ilse and I went to the bank, we got lost for more than an hour. It was so silly!

Then I assisted on my first professional video shoot, which included Gino Bruno, director of photography, Rosemary, the producer and Catherine Baum, associate producer. The video is for the Coalition for the Homeless to celebrate its 30th Anniversary. As production assistant, I applied makeup to interviewees, directed them to sign release forms and took still pictures of the production for Double R.

Our intern team also took responsibility for a shoot on our own. The “In-the-Camera” project called for us to develop a script outline, shoot it and then play it back – without any editing – to the Double R team. It took us a couple of days to figure out the topic. Finally, we decided to name it: Double R intern guide for foreign students. At first I was little nervous because it was my first time with a camera, but I think we did a good job.

It hasn’t been all work and no play. I recently celebrated Mexican Independence Day at an event organized by the Mexican Embassy. Did I say I was Mexican? Viva Mexico!
