Saturday began early at 9:30 a.m. sharp. Paul and I met with a sleepy-eyed Rosemary to fetch our equipment at the office and some last minute advice for shooting the One Nation Working Together rally. Then it was off to Metro with other rally attendees who were blowing whistles and singing songs.
We met Kate at the Smithsonian Metro stop and began our long trudge towards the Lincoln Memorial. Along the way we passed Liberals of every kind. Many were holding signs, demanding jobs and better education.
When we finally made it to the press risers, Paul began manning the Sony-PD 170 camera while Kate and I ran back and forth on the ground to catch footage of people dancing and chanting.
“What’s destroying jobs is that they are out-sourcing jobs for a less pay, and they expect for the American people to continue to live. How can you live if you don’t have a job? You need to work somewhere. Otherwise, that’s going to make people resort to crime,” said Bessie Ayres, a NJ state employee for the Office of Information and Technology.
Five hours later the crowd began to die down, and Paul, Kate, and I decided it to call it a day. With our tapes full of exciting footage, we trudged back to Metro and collapsed in our seats, happily knowing that we had done a good job.
