Supreme Court shoot sends important message

  • admin

After weeks of planning and preparation, Double R shot public service announcements featuring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and Congressman Lee Hamilton, both of whom are now retired. Hamilton is the director of the Center on Congress at Indiana University, which sponsored the civic awareness PSAs.

I have to admit that I was a little nervous going into the shoot as it was my first real experience working with high-profile clients. I knew I would just have to trust my training from previous shoots and everything would go smoothly.

Part of the experience was the opportunity to shoot in the Supreme Court. Our location was in a conference room, but that hardly begins to describe the space. The room looked like a piece of history itself with a fireplace, portraits of former justices and two beautiful chandeliers complete with crystal stars for a patriotic touch.

After I had the opportunity to take in the grandeur of the room, it was time to get to work. Gino and Gonzo operated a stationary camera and a camera hooked up to a jib. It took a bit of time to set up, but with nine members of our team there, the process moved right along.

Justice O’Connor and Congressman Hamilton got their parts spot-on the first time, so the shoot went quickly. Congressman Hamilton was kind enough to talk to me after I told him I was from Columbus, Indiana—his hometown as well.

All in all, the shoot at the Supreme Court was a great experience with an important message. I’m really starting to get the hang of being a production assistant and I’m looking forward to the next project!
