Last week I had no choice but to dive in and learn. As the only intern in the office while the other two served as PAs on shoots, I needed to keep our edit project moving. I couldn’t simply say, “Uh huh,” which is my go-to response when I really don’t know something, or at least need another demonstration. I made a few edits using Avid, which isn’t so bad once you get the hang of it. However, I must say that prior to that, it was as if I were learning a foreign language. I’d sit down, stare at the computer, think, and stare again as if the work was going to magically happen by itself. Today I’ll be back at it again, this time revising and editing the opening. Whew, no sweat right? I figured out how to splice-in, go back ten frames, or just one, and how to overwrite. Learning these editing terms will guide me when putting together future projects. I still have my work cut out for me, but isn’t that what learning is all about? I’m always up for the challenge!
