The Double R Intern Production Company Presents: Melanie’s March!

  • admin

One of the best aspects of interning at Double R is that we are constantly presented with opportunities to work on our own projects and refine our camera skills. Last weekend Jose had the opportunity to shoot a piece for Santa’s Foundation at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and on Wednesday we headed over to Union Station to shoot the last mile of Melanie’s March, an ongoing health care rally which began in Philadelphia on February 17th and ended on February 24th in Washington DC. We had no idea what to expect when we showed up at Union Station at noon on February 24th. However with three video cameras and a digital still camera we generated a lot of excitement from the marchers who wanted to share their views on health care reform. The entire experience was really amazing and we were able to follow the rally from Union Station down to the Capitol building. Although we have not reviewed the footage yet, I think we got some great interviews and some really good shots of the crowd for b-roll. Our only obstacle was the tripod we were toting around. Once we made it to the Capitol where the whole group was gathered, we were no longer permitted to set up the tripod and had to conduct a couple very shaky interviews without it. Altogether shooting this rally was a great way to spend a Wednesday morning and definitely gave us some more hands-on experience with the cameras!
