Our final shoot as Double R interns took place in a very familiar area near our beloved Washington Center housing facility. Unfamiliar to me was the pressure of having such a key role in the production process – shooting second camera. Upon a cold arrival at the Atlas Theatre, we saw the friendly face of Harry Drollinger, our sound recordist and on this particular shoot he also served as director of photography.
The shoot was for a short promotional video for the improv group Now This! Working as a videographer for an actual client was a bit nerve-racking, much like the time I was in charge of the TelePrompTer, but I knew that I just needed to keep my cool and all would be well.
It was difficult, but we did a great job. Following Harry’s advice and professional knowledge, this shoot was a learning experience. I have never shot video of a live performance and it was a challenge to keep the actors in frame as they went about their spontaneous scats. I am very pleased with the final product – also edited by Double R interns – and I am very proud to demonstrate this piece in my portfolio.
I never thought that I would actually be working on projects for clients. Most internships do not give interns the means much less the trust to do this kind of work. I am so very thankful that I was awarded this opportunity.
