When Briana and I arrived at the Double R Productions office on the first day of our summer internship, we were delightfully surprised to learn that we weren’t alone on this adventure into the video production world. Woojae Kwon, an intern talented enough to be selected from the Korea West program to work at Double R, awaited in the corner of the office to show us the ropes. Although I am sure Woojae appreciated having some fellow interns to lighten his load, it was Briana and I who were fortunate enough to have him around.
On our first day, one of our most notable lessons from Woojae was the proper use of equipment, specifically the still camera. We would utilize this lesson on an assignment that very day. However, Briana and I were so occupied with the tutorial that we failed to grasp the objective of the Intern Scavenger Hunt. When we returned without successfully completing our first assignment, Woojae smiled and shook his head in disappointment tinged with entertainment. That is when I realized I liked Woojae: 2 hours and 24 minutes into my summer internship.
At first, Woojae’s mentorship seemed slow. We learned soon enough that his lessons were slow because this business is fast. So fast, in fact, that eight weeks passed in what seemed like the blink of an eye. Woojae’s last day at Double R Productions was last Friday. The office, especially the intern corner, just isn’t the same without him.
