I am Karl Celecia from Gibraltar, one of the new interns at Double R Productions! Four weeks have flown by since I last set foot in the states, and I expect nothing less for the coming term. These four weeks have been a little hectic, meeting a lot of new people and visiting many educational sites as well as historical ones. I recently attended an art exhibition, hosted in Dupont Underground, a subterranean abandoned carriageway station. This sits under Dupont’s chaotic streets, and is currently being used to host different cultural events. So if you haven’t been yet I highly recommend it!
This part of the world is new to me and familiarizing myself with the American culture hasn’t been easy. It’s been fun being a tourist, but now it’s time to get down to business.
Upon arriving at Double R, I was very anxious to meet everybody, but luckily everyone was super welcoming, which allowed me to settle in fairly quick. The first week was all about being introduced to the internship; the dos and don’ts, the what’s, the whys and the hows. My main priorities in this internship are to learn and become acquainted with the different jobs that this industry has to offer, and to develop new skills with cameras and different software.
During our second week we were challenged with an assignment “In the Camera,” which involved the creation of a film. The rules were simple; the clips were to flow from scene to scene, with no editing allowed and were to be viewed “inside the camera”. It was about 30 degrees celcius outside…and that is hot! And this did not make the assignment easy, but we worked as a team and we organized our tasks well, allowing us to smash this assignment! Check out some behind the scene pictures of us above!
Politics in America is currently a touchy subject…and with the elections coming up soon, Double R encourages everyone to register and vote. We have also been assigned to come up with ideas on encouraging people to register and vote. Being an intern in a media communications business means that it is important to familiarize yourself with other roles in the industry, and this includes being part of the Sales/PR/Marketing team. Politics isn’t really my thing…so I decided to do what I do best, and get creative! After Effects, is a software which is new to me, and is something that I’ve always wanted to practice with. In this day and age when we are constantly being bombarded with digital media, I feel that it is important to be able to have the appropriate skills within this area. I decided to create a simple audio-visual animation, something I would have never tried if it weren’t for this assignment. Luckily Double R provides the team with a range of creative applications, allowing us to get creative and express ourselves with different media software. This will soon be posted on our social media pages…come and have a look at our instagram.
