Kirby: Gwen McKinney, a longtime friend of Rosemary Reed and substitute host of the ARISE! Program on WPFW Radio, came into the Double R office last Thursday and the pleasure was all ours. She was coming in to do a stand-up for the final touch on our sizzle reel for her new website launch, McKinney & Associates, and I was ecstatic. I was going to meet the famous Gwen I’d heard about all summer and finally see the TelePrompTer put into action.
Approximately 15 minutes before Gwen was set to arrive, my excitement mutated into adrenaline-fueled terror at the drop of a hat. Why? Rosemary informed me that I would be operating the TelePrompTer during Gwen’s stand-up. Before that day, I had never even run the teleprompter, let alone operated it while the camera was rolling. Still, it was “chop-chop” and “learn quick” because Gwen would be showing up any minute and there is no room for excuses with clients – or Rosemary. The pressure was on… in my head, at least. In truth, working the TelePrompTer isn’t rocket science; it just takes a bit of practice and some timing adjustments. All the same, I was still panicking even after the camera was off. Graciously, Gwen tranquilized my anxiety with a compliment on my newly found technical skill. Just like that, my hectic half-hour faded into something more than a memory: A lesson about not letting fear of failure make things harder than necessary. Considering the busy shoot coming up with Amy Smith, the lesson was timed perfectly.
Briana: When I joined Double R Productions, I expected an internship that provided a variety of experiences, but I never imagined I would gain 3 in 1 day. Amy Smith, the Keto Queen and client of Andrea Sims, Lion’s Share Communications, traveled to DC to make a promotional video about the Keto diet and share her success story. Double R was recruited to record her story and create a video. First, we gathered b-roll in the city by traveling to sights like the Capitol and the Supreme Court. I was responsible for creating the release forms and I assisted in packing the equipment. Second, Double R invited Amy to the office, where we set up the in-house studio. While Amy touched up her makeup, Kirby and I assisted Paul to prepare the camera and lights. Rosemary had prepared questions and guided Amy through a conversation about the Keto diet.
