During our first week at Double R, Erin, Caitlin and I were given the long-term assignment to create a demo reel. This video sums up our ten-week internship in three to four minutes, and features photos, client videos and our own piece of creative flair. We three ladies made our demo reel a little different from past Double R intern reels, which usually had a touch of male editing. Madonna’s, “Vogue” added a kick of girl power.
But that’s not all: Bon Jovi’s tunes jazzed things up, too. It starts with the three of us saying our names, what field of work we are interested in and where we go to school. We gave these “elevator speeches” in front of the black backdrop. I then learned techniques to fade the music in and out and make transitions.
We all agreed we wanted to make it personal. We placed photos of the three of us applying makeup to clients, taking notes for the editor on interview bites and filming our own footage throughout our experience at Double R. This selection fittingly synchs with “Strike A Pose.” It really shows that we stole the show for the past ten weeks.
The knowledge I am taking away from my time spent at Double R is being able to produce my own videos using the AVID editing software. Before I came to Double R I had no comprehension of video editing. The team was quick to assure me they could help me out. After weeks of shooting our own footage, using the camera and learning AVID techniques, we now have a great, personalized video to show future employers.
