*To the tune of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air*
In the District of Columbia I was born and raised, downtown is where I spent most of my days.
Hi! My name is Hiwot Hailu, and I’m one of Double R’s newest interns from right here in D.C. To be exact I have lived in Northeast, Riverdale, Chevy Chase, and Silver Spring over the course of 18 years. I left home to attend university in Charlotte, North Carolina but I couldn’t stay away for long. I am back spending a semester in the city that raised me.
The first two weeks with Double R have been great. I have learned so much about the importance of prepping for a shoot because “prior proper planning prevents piss poor production”, or the 7 P’s of production, as coined by Double R President Rosemary Reed. Adeja and I collaborated to create our in- the- camera video and elevator speeches, about Double R Productions and ourselves. Working on these together has highlighted the importance of communicating ideas, planning before shooting, and patience (because the first take will not be the only take).
I look forward to spending this semester learning about production from Rosemary and the Double R team, as well as all the experiences the city still has to offer me as an adult. Being here is the best of both worlds, growing up here exposed me to such diversity and open-mindedness, and now returning as a young professional I am able to learn from the best.
