Amid the midterm election hype train we’ve been riding at Double R, Jeff Sessions resigned as United States Attorney General. This resignation sparked protests across the U.S. with people wondering why he stepped down. Will Matthew Whitaker mess with the Russia investigation or will the investigation even continue? Tensions are high, Americans are heated, and a protest was organized in front of the White House. A perfect story for our Double Rintern team Michelle, Shirley, and me.
Major challenges for this shoot were the lighting and timing. Getting there with enough time to use the sun for natural light was our main priority. During the winter months, the sun goes down much quicker so we needed to get there before sunset. Unfortunately, the sun disappeared within ten minutes of arriving at the White House. If it weren’t for the Double Rwand light we wouldn’t have been able to record the interviews or finish the news piece.
Another challenge I had to face was recording my voice over in the whisper room. The stand-up was easy but I had difficulty saying the words clearly in a concise manner. I had to keep recording over-and-over again but I eventually got it. Rosemary said my energy was present during the stand-up, not to mention my popping “P’s.” I’ve now learned I don’t need to swallow the mic. During the voice over my energy was missing, and she was right. It’s easier to feel the energy when at the location but when you’re taken away, you lose your same energy. I learned a valuable lesson about finding my voice and I’m looking forward to the next lesson.
