On Tuesday, the Double R team covered DC Water’s Annual Women of Water (WoW) conference: “Understanding Influence.” It was a wonderful event as women talked openly and candidly about their experiences in the work place. The conference generated a lot of important discussion that even reached us as young professionals beginning to join the work force.
Mahalia:
I was first tasked to quickly locate all panelists to sign a release form. The release form is incredibly important; as it is the only way we are able to use a person’s voice and image in our video. Then I had to assure that everyone who spoke from the audience also signed a release form. I had wonderful help from Pam Taylor, the safety video and communications project manager at DC Water. She pointed me in the right direction so this process could go by smoothly. She made sure to point out who needed to sign release forms and I quickly followed behind her. She even took a couple release forms herself and gave participants to sign. Pam was an incredible help!
Woojae and I were also in charge of running the audience microphone during the Q&A portion of the program. It was a bit tricky getting around because of the layout, but we ended up being praised for our diligence by one of the WoW committee members. I learned that paying attention to every detail during a video shoot is incredibly important. We work in unison with our clients to put on an excellent production and event. I also learned that helping our clients in any way only serves to ensure a great event, which will ultimately turn into a wonderful video.
Woojae:
I was really excited to go to DC Water’s Annual (WoW) conference. I’ve been hearing about it for a long time. As expected, the conference was huge. This was the biggest shoot I’ve attended by far and it had the earliest call time: 6:00AM!
The most important thing I learned at the shoot is the importance of cooperation. We had approximately 20 people on the interview list, and we started recording interviews during lunch. Pam Taylor made sure to bring the interviewees over one by one, so the interviews could go as efficiently as possible.
For any video, we learned that our clients are just as important as our video equipment, such as a DC Water employee like Pam, an interviewee or even an audience member patiently waiting for the microphone. If Double R Productions is the painter, our clients and their event are the paint to our canvas!
